'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Young People Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The loved ones of teens lost after a devastating blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an excruciating wait for answers and requesting any details about their family members publicly.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Circulated images reveal the roof structure igniting as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have stated that it could take an extended period to identify the those who perished of the fire, which killed four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work still underway to name the final individuals.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been using online platforms to appeal for clues about their friends who were in attendance that night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his mother.
The resident of a town near the city, told a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she said.
She explained that some of his peers had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has confirmed that six of its citizens remain missing.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, originally from Genoa but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him passion and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend said they escaped after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers said, "He was known for his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. He would frequently ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also present on that night, according to media.
Her brother has published an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her other nation say they are closely watching the developments.
