Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to voice opinions regarding the Trump government, worried it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions within the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains the Actress
During a discussion, Lawrence reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, public figures fail to influence in any way on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has previously been open about voting for both Republican and Democratic presidential nominees in past elections. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the Democratic party and explaining she understood during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a woman.
Past Statements
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “since I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will make every effort to protect reproductive rights.”
Celebrity Views
Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“The second term appears changed,” noted Lawrence of his administration. “As he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who struggles with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a interview session for the movie in the film festival, the star spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Broader Concerns
Lawrence added by saying that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discourse of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
Lawrence sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration endorsed by numerous Hollywood professionals to boycott specific industry bodies.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in the new film. Although Ramsay has disputed the story being seen as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, she said that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, shortly after shooting ended.
“There was concern for my son,” she commented, “imagining every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I took it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
The actor also discussed of the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
