Several Injured as In-Flight Disturbance Hits Delta Plane Arriving in Sydney, Australia
A number of individuals have been injured when a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by significant turbulence Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson informed. Four flight attendants sustained injuries.
Emergency medical services reported they assessed five patients, and transferred a trio to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that such as spinal discomfort and headaches. The patients' ages ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.
This marks the latest incident of commercial jets experiencing atmospheric disturbance, with experts indicating that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.
There were nearly 250 travelers and a crew of 15 on the aircraft, the Delta spokesperson said, adding that the plane touched down "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.
The NSW Ambulance Service reported they got a call just three minutes ahead of the plane touched down, and emergency vehicles were ready and waiting at the airport.
